  • Al West - Faculty, Nursing, Southeastern Community College - No matter where you are in the hierarchy, the North Carolina Community College Leadership Program has something to offer. The information presented coupled with the opportunities to network and share with other participants from Community Colleges across the state is invaluable. This program is a must for anyone who has a serious desire to become a more effective leader.

  • Joyce Watson - Director, Human Resources, Catawba Valley Community College - The North Carolina Community College Leadership Program is one of the best kept secrets in the Community College System. As a 2007 participant, I feel honored to have been chosen to participate. The many facets of leadership training used is remarkable. I especially enjoyed the session with Kennon Briggs. The session with different styles of leadership, the Six hats session, diversity. The HOT issues facing the community colleges was especially helpful. I learned so much it is very hard to mention all of it. The facilitators were marvelous, very professional and willing to help us in any way day or night.

  • Pocahontas Jones - Dean of Curriculum Programs
    Halifax Community College
    - The Leadership Program was a very valuable experience for me. I learned a lot, and was refreshed with a lot of ideas. Now I have support and a strong network of people who shared what I got.

This will be the most beneficial to me in my efforts to lead from the middle, up and down based on the 306 degree leadership style.

I am very thankful to the ladies who assisted in putting things together for the leadership program, and even more thankful for the experiences with all the participants.

It really was a P3 = possibilities, provisions, and potentials.

  • Kim McGinnis - Director of Occupational Extension Training Carteret Community College - I feel that the NCCCLP is a very worthwhile investment of time and energy. I have had the opportunity to network with individuals from many of the community colleges in our state - the relationships developed are invaluable. The sessions were very informative. I really learned a lot from Mr. Kennon Briggs - I have never understood our budget and the reasons behind the decisions that were made at the state level until I heard him speak. I think everyone in our system should be encouraged to participate in this program. It is very valuable on many levels. Thank you for allowing me to participate.

  • Ben Casey - Director Community Relations, Pamlico Community College  - While this program taught me about leadership skills needed to lead from a position of influence rather than just from a position, it taught me to learn more about myself. I learned that I can be a better and more effective leader by leading myself, that I must properly lead myself to effectively lead others. In a nutshell, I felt that while I learned how to become a better leader, this program led me to seek ways to become a better person.

  • Lori Winstead - Cooperative Education and Career Services Coordinator, Edgecombe Community College - The leadership program provides the participants with the opportunity to meet diverse individuals working at various levels and colleges throughout NC. While participating in the program I was provided with the opportunity to learn how to identify, confront, and resolve challenges within the workplace. I was also empowered to address concerns and lead from my current position within the organization. I have been more productive and better equipped to address the concerns facing our institution.

  • Jane Power - Marketing Director, Pitt Community College
    -
The NCCCLP experience has opened my eyes to so many new things. I am very thankful to have been nominated and selected to participate. By comparison, I am fairly new to the NC Community College System (only 5 years), but I am a strong supporter of what we provide for our students. I have seen, through this program, great leadership potential in others as well as myself. I can now see my strengths and my weaknesses from a different perspective, and have learned skills and tools to build upon. I highly recommend this program for anyone interested in bettering themselves. The facilitators are great, and you will get out of it what you put into it!

"Leadership is not so much about technique and methods as it is about opening the heart. Leadership is about inspiration—of oneself and of others. Great leadership is about human experiences, not processes. Leadership is not a formula or a program, it is a human activity that comes from the heart and considers the hearts of others. It is an attitude, not a routine."
